Introduction to Prelimary Task

Introduction

The preliminary task is to create a magazine cover for a 6^th Form or College magazine. I hope to achieve an effective and interesting magazine cover which will appeal to its target audience.

The requirements for this magazine cover is to have a medium shot of someone on the cover. Also, it must be created on Photoshop and it must be for a 6^th Form or College. I intend to use the image as a way to establish my target audience and Photoshop as a way to make the cover look more professional.

My ideas so far are to have a magazine targeting the students of the school. Also, the aesthetic aspects will involve the colours which are already present in the school, red, yellow and blue. These colours can be seen in the school logo. The name of the magazine will simply be ‘6^th Form’ but to differentiate it from other school magazines, the colours related to the school and the school logo will be used. The school’s house style will be paramount.

I have chosen to make my target audience to be the students. I’ve done this as a way to inform and entertain the students of the school.

My overall idea for the magazine is to make it simple but current and modern at the same time. I don’t want to have too much on the cover as that could defer students from reading it. I intend to keep the magazine relevant and interesting.

The purpose of my publication would be to inform students as well as entertain them. I would like to keep students up to date on any matters which would regard them or the school. At the same time, I would want to entertain the consumer, this could be done by having entertaining columns or comics which could be written/made by students.

If my magazine was real, I would distribute it at the end of every academic month. It would be a good time to summarise any important events which happened and any which are coming up.

I hope to attract my audience through colours, catchy headlines and images. As a student myself, I would be able to make the magazine easy for other students to relate too which would be a reason for students to read it.

I intend to experiment with colour and fonts in order to reach my full creative potential. I particularly want to experiment with colour as I want that to be a focal point of the cover as well as a way to attract my audience.
